Health Spa Beginnings

Begun as a traditional style Bed and Breakfast, Sanctuary Retreat grew in its vision as Health Spa by incorporating an infra-red sauna. Bruce Dycks, Sanctuary’s wholistic practitioner, quickly came on the scene and the vision was becoming a reality. Divine Providence continued to guide and detoxifying healthy beverages and food supplement capsules became a key feature to Sanctuary Retreat B & B Health Spa.

Detoxify Your Body for Weight Loss

Many toxins hide away in fat cells, protecting the rest of the body. This is one of the reasons why it is so hard to lose weight.  The body chooses to hang onto the fat to pad the toxins.

When a detoxification programme is initiated, the sauna removes some of the strain on the liver and kidneys by flushing those toxins (which are being pushed out of the fat cells) through the largest organ of your body–your skin. A massage by Bruce will also encourage the drainage of the toxins through the lymphatic system. The Hungarian Mud wrap continues to pull out toxins through the skin.

Eight Cups of  Water

Drink at least eight cups of water per day. Water is not just a matter of running fluid through the “pipes” like a cleansing system. It does do that, but do not forget that the body needs water for chemical interactions as the body digests and absorbs the food. It also makes a great adaptive tool to retrain us from bad habits. Drinking water when tempted to snack fills the stomach and gives you that little something to do when needing a break and the habit of wanting to snack unnecessarily arises.

To Snack or Not-to-Snack–that is the question!

Some of us, diabetics for example, need to snack. It becomes a matter of portion control. For myself, a Gano 3-in-1 (or Schokolade, GanoC’Real Spirulina Oats) between meals keeps my blood sugar up just long enough for me to wait until meal time. Some breakfasts simply consist of Schokolade thickened with the C’Real for a more substantive meal.

Preparing to Dine

Take Sanctuary’s healthy beverage 30 to 60 minutes before a meal to satisfy the appetite since that length of time gives the body a chance to absorb nutrients the body is looking for.  When a person is mindful of this, it is easier to give oneself permission to cut down portions.

Banish Calorie Counting by Portion Control

Depending on your body size (I’m just 5′ 1″ tall), limit your portions to 1/4 to 1/2 cup (60 ml to 120 ml) per food group at any one meal.
